According to initial plans of the Lublin Open Air Village Museum is located in Kalinowszczyzna area and cover the area of 12ha. Was given because of difficulties in acquiring land necessary for this specific activity in 1975, the museum of the new 27ha area in the suburban district Slawinek.
In May 1976, the work with the first object with the museum, the windmill of Zygmuntow launched its transfer. It was on 27 September 1979, the first sector of Museum - The Lublin Upland - was opened.
In his capacity Lublin Open Air Village Museum covers the area from about the Lubelskie Region, as it was before the administrative reform 1975th It includes all or part of geographical regions such as: Lublin Upland, Roztocze, Polesie Lubelskie, Podlaskie, Mazowieckie and Sandomierz Valley differentiate each of them clearly from each other either geographically and ethnographically. This exhibition is divided into seven sectors in the museum was - Lublin Upland, Roztocze, Vistula region Podlasie, Bug region and the castle and city sectors.
This year is our 35th Museum Anniversary. The celebration of the anniversary, on 24 June 2005, included the opening of the new reception building with the architecture of Kazimierz Dolny in the eighteenth century.
